3d printed smart phone stands

Back in 2017(?), the CAD program at my college held a job fair. As a token of thanks to the companies that were present, I designed and printed their 2-d company logo as a 3-d smart phone holder. Below are just a few examples.

3d printed face shields

At the start of the 2020 pandemic, my college joined the effort to help create supply of face shields to local medical facilities in need. I was operating the 3d printer round clock/6 days a week to create over 200 face shields.

Just the beginning of the large batch

New hand control

Experiencing that the handcontrol in my personal car was lacking in areas of function, I undertook recreating a new handcontrol to perform better than the original. Reverse engineered, researched materials, 3-d modeled in cad, cnc machined, some assistance from Ironwood Artistic in New River - AZ, and finished with a nice comfortable grip I picked out and installed by me. Performs quite nicely. The (old)control can be seen in action in this video from an earlier post.

[Not pictured]All related fasteners were changed from steel to titanium.
Heavy and clunky handcontrol on the left, my improved lightweight control on the right. The control on the left is chrome plated...which adds weight to the already heavy steel. The control on the right is the natural brushed/satiny finish of aluminum...no need to chrome.

Track time videos

In this video, after viewing the raw footage, it definitely needed to be edited in premiere to correct the camera tilt. On the flip side, it was kind of interesting to see my head move around based on g-forces.

This video took some time to edit, but came out as I envisioned it.

This was a challenging model. Walls and glass needed to be cone-like, yet had to meet perpendicular walls at the sides.

Busy, busy.

Gallery project

I have recently been informed, by the department director that I've been working with, that the generous donor, whom I can't disclose yet, will fund the project based on the concepts I designed(previous posts below).

Foyer-Gallery concept

I was first asked to assist with some cad work for another department. It later turned out they wanted some ideas for redesigning the interior. After some research of the building, the theme, and other information, I created this concept. Autocad, 3dsmax with wide angle lens, and Photoshop.

Video Edited

Edited in Adobe Premiere. I've been using Premiere for the past 8 years. I was a bit obsessive editing this piece, well I'm obsessive whenever I edit. The goPro Hero camera is very cool to play with, great high quality vids. If you don't hear music...well I guess it was just a matter of time.

For the curious, professionals use Premiere, AfterEffects, FinalCutPro, and Avid...depending on the machine, your boss, and where you are. There are others, but these are the ones dominating the market. I teach my students video editing using Adobe Premiere.

Economic tooling

A side benefit of autocad, it helped me imagine, in 3-d, a special mold for a part. Saved time and money by making a 2-in-1 mold.

Interest list

With many things coming up, I have to prioritize my "to do list". I haven't been sitting still, many of my projects get shuffled based on windows of opportunity. I revisit some favorite projects for improvement. With that being said, if you have a future interest in a kit version of my tank or truck, whether it be a few months to maybe when the economy gets better, do not hesitate to email me via the About Me link. With a list of those interested, it will inform me as how much to pursue replicating my work, or not.

Thanks, JS
